RECORDING HELP
Save Long Screen Recordings Safely
A long recording needs room to save, a stable computer, and a way to keep the finished file. Recording has no artificial time limit, but practical browser and device limits still apply.
Check sound before a long session
Enable Microphone and select the input you intend to use. Test microphone records up to ten seconds of audio. Stop the test, listen through its playback controls, and discard it when finished. The sample stays in this page and is not kept in the saved-recording list.
The microphone test checks narration only. Make a short screen recording to check shared computer sound and any webcam overlay together.
Prefer direct-file recording when available
Use Save directly to a file before starting. Choose a destination with enough free space. Capture data is written to that file during recording and finalized when you stop. Keep the recorder page open until saving completes.
Direct-file recording does not create a browser recovery copy. A crash, closed page or unfinished file write can leave the selected file incomplete or unavailable. Use a short test and your normal backup practices for important work.
Understand browser storage protection
Browser-save mode writes completed chunks to local storage. The available-capacity estimate can change and is shared with other data for this site. Download and remove older recordings if you need space.
Request storage protection asks the browser to reduce automatic eviction of this site’s data. The browser may decline. Protection does not replace a downloaded copy and does not prevent you from clearing site data.
Keep the computer ready to record
Keep display awake asks supported browsers to keep the display on while the recorder page is visible. The browser may refuse or release the request, particularly when the tab is hidden. The capture details show the current request state.
Check your computer’s sleep and power settings yourself. The recorder cannot guarantee that a computer will stay awake or continue capturing through sleep, screen locking, device disconnection or a crash. For a webcam overlay, keep the recorder tab visible to reduce background throttling.
Export a large browser-saved video
In Saved on this device, Save to file writes one saved chunk at a time to a file you choose. This option is shown when the browser supports local file selection. It avoids building a whole-video Blob just to export.
For videos larger than 256 MB, automatic preview is skipped. Preview / recover asks before loading a large video into memory. If file selection is unavailable, that preview/download path may still work when enough memory is available, but a very large recording can exceed the browser’s limits.
Cancelling a file export keeps the browser-saved recording. Wait for an export to finish before leaving the page, removing its saved data or changing it from another tab. Export preserves the recorded format; it does not convert or repair a video.
Manage the local recording list
Search by file name and sort by date, name or size. Rename changes the saved file name and the current download name; it leaves earlier downloads unchanged. Remove deletes a browser-saved copy, so download anything you want to keep first.
If pending writes cannot keep up with capture, the recorder stops to limit queued memory and waits for pending data to save. Check the finished result. Interruptions and storage failures can still leave only a partial recording.
Recording happens on your device. Make a short test, listen to the result, and keep a downloaded copy of anything you want to save.
