RECORDING HELP
Screen Recorder Troubleshooting
Start with a supported desktop browser, an HTTPS page, and a short test. These checks help identify which part of capture needs attention.
Recording will not start
Open the site directly over HTTPS. Local development on localhost is also supported. If screen capture is unavailable, use a supported desktop browser; many mobile browsers do not expose screen capture.
Allow the browser’s screen-sharing dialog and select a source. If a microphone or webcam was enabled, approve those device prompts too. After a denial, check the site permissions beside the address bar, or turn off the device option and try again.
If a selected microphone or camera is no longer connected, refresh the device list and choose System default. Close another application that is holding a device open.
Sound is missing or quiet
For narration, confirm the microphone option is on, the intended device is selected and the microphone is not muted. Check its level meter, physical mute switch and input volume in system settings.
For source sound, enable Tab / computer audio and allow the sharing dialog’s audio checkbox when offered. If there is no checkbox or no audio track is returned, that source/browser/OS combination may not support shared audio. Try sharing a tab as a separate test.
The picture is black, frozen or jerky
Confirm you chose the intended window or tab and that the source remains available. Some protected content cannot be captured. Try another source to distinguish content restrictions from a general capture problem.
For a webcam overlay, keep the recorder tab visible, reduce settings to 720p and 30 fps, and close demanding programs. The browser may throttle a background canvas. Avoid computer sleep during a recording.
A recording is in use in another tab
Current-version tabs coordinate saved recordings with browser locks when supported. While a recording or export owns a recording’s lock, other tabs cannot preview, rename, export or remove that recording. Different recordings can still be used separately.
The local list refreshes through same-site browser messages when supported and when the page regains focus. Use Refresh list if it looks stale. These messages contain a change signal, not recording media or file names, and do not go to the server.
Older versions, other browser profiles and browsers without the required APIs do not participate in this protection. Keep one recorder tab open in those cases. A closed or crashed tab normally releases its browser lock; refresh the list before recovery.
Storage is full or saving is slow
Saving status shows the latest successfully written chunk and pending data. A selected direct file is finalized only after Stop & save completes. Download and remove older browser-saved recordings to free space. Reported storage capacity is an estimate and can be shared with other data for this site. Keep the page open until saving finishes.
Use direct-file saving for a long recording when available. There is no artificial recording time limit, but memory, disk space and browser limits still apply. If a storage error stops capture, only chunks that finished saving may be recoverable.
An interrupted recording or download will not play
Do not clear this site’s data while recording. If the local database is cleared or changed, browser-save capture stops and this page requires a reload before using that storage again. Direct-file recording does not depend on the recording database.
Reopen this site in the same browser profile and check Saved on this device. Preview / recover assembles chunks that reached local storage. The latest unsaved data may be missing and interrupted files are not guaranteed to play.
Direct-file mode does not keep a browser recovery copy. Closing or crashing before the file is finalized can leave it incomplete or unavailable. Keep the page open and use Stop & save normally.
Check whether the file is WebM or MP4 and use a compatible player. Renaming the extension does not convert a video. This tool has no server conversion or video repair service.
Recording happens on your device. Make a short test, listen to the result, and keep a downloaded copy of anything you want to save.
